Bookmarks Coloring Freebie

 Hi everyone!

I just wanted to drop in and tell you guys about our first day of fasting! It was a success! My daughter who is turning eight later this year completed her first full roza!  I am so very proud of her! There were hard moments but she did it!

I've been working on some freebies for the kids this Ramadan.  So here is the first one. A coloring page that you can cut out and use as bookmarks!  Please feel free to share, this page is for personal use only.

Ramadan Daily: Part 01

If you don't know Ali Edwards you need to head over to her blog and follow her on Instagram! She is the queen of memory keeping.  She makes it look so effortless and put together!  Personally, I love her December Daily project, but it doesn't really vibe with what's happening in December for us.  This year I decided that I would attempt a Ramadan Daily.  A 30 day project documenting the ins and outs of fasting and praying this year.  My daughter is also going to be fasting so I want to document her journey this year.  I'm thinking of having a physical journal that I will eventually digitize and have it printed for my daughter as a memory book.

Ramadan Daily

I have chosen a minimal black and white color scheme where your story will shine.

I have created a set of Project Life journaling cards to use in this project.  If you would like to join me you can purchase the set of cards from my Etsy store.  I have a freebie down below where you can print out the daily numbers to use in your journaling.

Cutting Paper

The size of the cards are 4x6 inches vertically oriented.  I have also enclosed a 2x3 size as well, you can use both sets in the Project Life App or you can print them out on 4x6 card stock (you will need a printer that can print on that size).

Project life cards

I am currently working on horizontal images and will be updating my shop listing as soon as they are done.

Please join me in this journey of documenting Ramadan.  It is the most magical time for us as Muslims and we should be able to document it and share it with generations to come.

You can use these numbers as you wish, you can stamp borders around them and cut them out; you can use a paper punch and punch them out.  Print them on printed paper for more character. I would love to see your creations so tag me on Instagram @wandering.in.the.universe

Much love,

Nissa

Preparing for Ramadan: Part 2 Making Paper Gems

Crafting new things is my soul.  I live to create new things and learn new skills.  Paper folding has been an ambition but I'm not very good at it.  My brother, on the other hand, is amazing at origami.  So, when I saw these paper templates (here and here) at Michaels I knew I had to have them.

Supplies

I obtained the card stock from Michaels during their Christmas clearance event.  I got two paper pads which contained glitter paper and foiled paper.

It's as simple as tracing the outline and scoring where there are gaps in the template. After folding on the scored lines, I used a hot glue gun to join the tabs together.

Paper Gems
There was a lot of scrap paper that was left over after I had cut out the paper gems.  I used the scraps to punch out different shapes such as circles, hexagons, and stars.  All the punches I used I have accumulated  over the years of sales and clearance buys.
Paper Gems

Before closing up the gem I inserted a string with a bead attached to secure the loop from which the gemstone would hang.  Thing that I love most about creating is having my kids watch me with so much interest.  My son loves asking so many questions on what I'm doing and whether he can help me or whether he can hold the gemstones.

Stay tuned for how I made the sign for Ramadan.

Preparing for Ramadan: Part 1

Welcome! My name is Nissa and I'm behind Wandering.in.the.Universe.  These past two years have been a roller coaster: emotionally, physically, and spiritually.  I've started various blogs but I was never able to keep up.  I realized I had it all wrong so this is going to be my space to share my adventures in crafting, photography and memory keeping.

Currently I'm working on Ramadan decorations.  This will be the first year that I go all out on Ramadan.  In our culture, unfortunately Ramadan is portrayed as something that we HAVE to do.  Not something that is supposed to reconnect you to your Allah and your religion.  My daughter is going to be turning eight later this year and I want her to associate Ramadan with something beautiful.  Something to look forward to.

First I decided that I would make an advent calendar using paper gems that would be broken open each day.  Then I realized that half way through the month the wall would look blah, and I didn't like the idea that all my hard work would be ripped to shreds by a seven and three year old.  So after I had made some gems I decided that I would use paper goodie bags to represent the calendar.

Stay tuned Part 2 will be coming soon.
